Nass Valley & BC’s Volcanic History
Nisga’a Memorial Lava Bed Provincial Park

Traveling some 70 km north of Terrace along Highway 113 leads the visitor to a unique provincial park: Nisga'a Memorial Lava Bed Provincial Park. Emerald green waters, serene waterfalls, lush forests, towering snow-capped mountains,

The Nass River valley area of BC is home to the Nisga’a Memorial Lava Bed Provincial Park and is believed to be the site of Canada’s most recent volcanic eruption and lava flow. The eruption occurred around 1700, destroying two villages of the Nisga’a people and killing about 2,000 people.
The eruption came from the Tseax Cone located east of Crater Creek, southeast of Gitlakdamix and 60 kilometres north of Terrace. The volcano sits in a valley near the Tseax River, about 20 kilometres south of the river’s junction with the Nass River. The Tseax Cone is one of the most accessible volcanic centres in the province.
The Nisga’a Memorial Lava Bed Provincial Park is about 179 square kilometres in size.

The world famous Klondike goldfields are located in the unglaciated part of west-central Yukon, Canada. Since their discovery over 100 years ago, they have produced an estimated 311 tonnes of gold, primarily from bench and creek placers that are fluvial in origin and range from Pliocene to Holocene in age. They extend from the Klondike River south to the Indian River, and from the Yukon River east to Flat Creek, covering an area of approximately 2000 km2.

Gitwangak Battle Hill
Gitwangak Battle Hill (formerly Kitwanga Fort) is the site of a former Gitwangak fortified village on the Kitwanga River in British Columbia, northeast of Terrace. During the late-1700s and early-1800s, Battle Hill was part of a complex trading network and the site of warfare between the Gitwangak (members of the Gitxsan) and other Aboriginal peoples of the Northwest Coast. The village was burned and abandoned in 1835. In 1971, it was recognized as a national historic site by the Canadian Register of Historic Places.

John's Forest Find
Found on a hike in the NW Pacific forest a fossilized bone embedding in the moss. When I picked it out I noticed the chew marks from forest creatures. It was a perfect fit in the hand, light and hollow. It lasted this long so I wanted to convert it into a special pouch. Cleaned, soaked in mineral oil and then I carved a cork top and included a beautiful quartz crystal cluster, unique in itself. Attached with a braided copper wire and filled with a variety of quartz crystal tumbled stones from a batch I had just finished. Ready to bring good luck and fortune, filled with love and positive energy... by John
